Besides taking out insurance to cover accidental damage to the car, all car owners and drivers driving on the roads are required to purchase third party liability insurance from an approved insurance company in accordance with the laws of the Hong Kong SAR.

1. Third Party Liability, including:
  (a) legal liability to third party personal injury/death
  (b) legal liability to third party property damage
2. Comprehensive insurance, including:
  (a)
third party liability
(b) fire and theft
(c) accidental damage or malicious damage to the insured car

 

Mainly determined according to the following factors:
(1) the coverage selected
(2) the market value, year, type and cylinder capacity of the car
(3) car type, e.g. private car, commercial use or business use
(4) age, profession, driving experience and claim record of the driver

 

(1) If no claim is made during the insured period, NCD will be offered on renewal of insurance
(2) If the proposer has enjoyed NCD during the past year, he should provide past insurance record upon application
(3) This bonus is only applicable to the original proposer and is not transferable

 

(1) The proposer must complete and sign a proposal form
(2) The owner's name, address and car particulars should be identical to those appearing on the car registration document
(3) The name, age, driving experience, relationship with the owner and driving licence number of other drivers, if applicable, should be provided
(4) Car number, type, year, usage and type of insurance purchased must be stated clearly
(5) Name of previous Insurance Company and Policy number, if applicable should be provided
(6) The proposal forms the basis of the insurance contract and therefore the proposer must give true and complete information

 


Hong Kong

 


(1) Inform the Insurance Company as soon as practicable after the accident
(2) For comprehensive insurance, tow the car to the garage after the accident and send the repair quotation to the Insurance Company. After inspection by the motor surveyor and agreement of repair fee, the Insurance Company will inform the garage to proceed with the work. After completion, the owner should sign a certificate to signify his satisfactory acceptance.
(3) If the accident involves third party injury/death or property loss, the Insured or the driver should not undertake to make compensation of any nature but instead should send copies of all relevant documents, including claim letters, summonses or notice of intended prosecution, etc. to the Insurance Company
